How is it useful for a Muggle to have a trained wizard or witch in their family?

“My name was down for Eton, you know, I can’t tell you how glad I am I came here instead. Of course, mother was slightly disappointed, but since I made her read Lockhart’s books I think she’s begun to see how useful it’ll be to have a fully trained wizard in the family…” – Justin Finch-Fletchley in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”

For one thing, witches and wizards aren’t supposed to use magic around Muggles:

“Any magical activity which risks notice by members of the non-magical community (Muggles) is a serious offence, under section 13 of the International Confederation of Warlocks’ Statute of Secrecy” – Harry’s warning letter from the Ministry of Magic in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”

I’m sure there are some exceptions if you’re a Muggleborn and you’re over 17 years old and are legally allowed to use magic? Does the rule still apply if it’s your own family and they know you’re a witch or wizard?

If the Muggleborn makes lots of money working in the wizarding world, they must be able to convert it into Muggle money and use it to pay for things their family needs?
